HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Trailer: The Targaryen Reign Begins In Fire And Blood

Following a series of character posters, HBO has released a new trailer for Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon, which charts the rise and fall of the mighty Targaryen family.

HBO released a series of character posters for House of the Dragon earlier today, and they've now debuted the first full trailer for the highly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel series, which is set to premiere on August 21.

The first teaser was very brief and really only featured a quick glimpse of the show's main players, but this promo is a lot more extensive, and gives us a first look at one of the fire-breathing beasts of the title.

Set almost 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon will focus on the civil war that erupts in the Targaryen household when the king names his daughter as heir to the Iron Throne ahead of his son.

"The prequel series finds the Targaryen dynasty at the absolute apex of its power, with more than 15 dragons under their yoke. Most empires—real and imagined—crumble from such heights. In the case of the Targaryens, their slow fall begins almost 193 years before the events of Game of Thrones, when King Viserys Targaryen breaks with a century of tradition by naming his daughter Rhaenyra heir to the Iron Throne. But when Viserys later fathers a son, the court is shocked when Rhaenyra retains her status as his heir, and seeds of division sow friction across the realm."

House of the Dragon stars Paddy Considine (Peaky Blinders) as King Viserys Targaryen, Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One) as Alicent Hightower, Emma D’Arcy (Wanderlust) as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Prince Daemon Targaryen.
