The review embargo for House of the Dragon lifted earlier today, and for the most part, the response has been positive. You can find a roundup of verdicts by clicking here, but a Rotten Tomatoes score has been generated and it's...pretty good!

As we noted earlier, the consensus seems to be that the prequel is essentially more of the same following Game of Thrones, and that's arguably reflected in its 76% score (think of that like 7.6/10). This isn't a bad result, of course, and we're sure the show will soon be "Certified Fresh."

That bodes well for HBO's first spinoff series, and while critics clearly aren't blown away by House of the Dragon, it does sound like fans of this franchise will find plenty to enjoy in the show.

While Game of Thrones ended on a disappointing note, comparisons to that underwhelming final season have been few and far between. With that in mind, if this effort is on the same level as that series when it was at its best, Sunday evening really can't get here soon enough.

Based on author George R.R. Martin's best-selling Fire & Blood, the series, set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the story of House Targaryen.

In the show, we'll learn how the powerful family fell into a bitter and brutal civil war known as the "Dance of the Dragons," presaging the beginning of the end of the ruling dynasty of Westeros. For Game of Thrones fans, exploring this era on screen is an undeniably exciting prospect.

House of the Dragon stars Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Fabien Frankel, and Rhys Ifans.

Other cast members include Milly Alcock, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Emily Carey, Harry Collett, Ryan Corr, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jefferson Hall, David Horovitch, Wil Johnson, John Macmillan, Graham McTavish, Ewan Mitchell, Theo Nate, Matthew Needham, Bill Paterson, Phia Saban, Gavin Spokes, and Savannah Steyn.

House of the Dragon premieres on HBO this Sunday, September 21.
