“An eye for an eye, a son for a son. Lucerys will be avenged.”

Season 1 of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, concluded with the death of Queen (yeah, come at me Greens!) Rhaenyra's beloved son Lucerys Velaryon at the hands (well, jaws) of Prince Aemond and his dragon Vhagar, and it sounds like the distraught Rhaenyra is going to waste little time in seeking vengeance when season 2 gets underway.

According to Redanianintelligence.com, the title for House of the Dragon‘s opening season 2 episode is “A Son for a Son."

The title comes from Daemon Targaryen’s letter to Rhaenyra in response to Lucerys' murder, and indicates that we will see Daemon hire the infamous duo known as Blood and Cheese to sneak into the Red Keep and carry out an assassination of one of Aegon's sons.

We already know that Sam C. Wilson and Mark Stobbart have been cast as Blood and Cheese, respectively, but we don't know if things will play out in the show exactly as they do in George R.R. Martin's Fire and Blood. The series has taken only minor liberties so far, though, so we can't imagine HBO deciding to make a major change here.

If they do stick to the book, Blood and Cheese will be successful in their mission... but the death in question is unlikely to bring Rhaenyra much in the way of satisfaction.

"The prequel series finds the Targaryen dynasty at the absolute apex of its power, with more than 15 dragons under their yoke. Most empires—real and imagined—crumble from such heights. In the case of the Targaryens, their slow fall begins almost 193 years before the events of Game of Thrones, when King Viserys Targaryen breaks with a century of tradition by naming his daughter Rhaenyra heir to the Iron Throne. But when Viserys later fathers a son, the court is shocked when Rhaenyra retains her status as his heir, and seeds of division sow friction across the realm."

House of the Dragon stars Paddy Considine (Peaky Blinders) as King Viserys Targaryen, Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One) as Alicent Hightower, Emma D’Arcy (Wanderlust) as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Prince Daemon Targaryen.

An exact season 2 premiere date has yet to be announced.
